More Than a Meal – Supporting Jubilee Hall’s Meals on Wheels

Our Communications Officer, Sarah had the privilege of visiting Jubilee Hall in Lupset, to see first-hand the impact of their Meals on Wheels service.

In our 2025 Unrestricted Small Grants round, we awarded some funding to support the Meals on Wheels service operating from Jubilee Hall, and we went to see the incredible service it provides. Each week, the team prepares and delivers an average of 300 meals across Lupset, Ossett, Flanshaw, Horbury, Thornes and Netherton.

The most popular choices? Traditional roasts and hearty pies,  proper home comforts that mean so much to the people receiving them.

This isn’t just about food.

Meals are freshly prepared in a kitchen proudly holding a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating. They’re plated up onsite on real crockery and delivered within two hours, ensuring that quality and food safety are a priority. The deliveries are made using two vans, one of which is electric, reflecting a thoughtful approach to sustainability.

What really stood out was the people. The team understand that for many of their service users, this may be the only knock on the door they receive that day. Each delivery is more than delivery of a meal, it’s a welfare check, a friendly face and a moment of human connection.

The impact of this service is multi-layered. By ensuring older and isolated residents have access to nutritious meals, Jubilee Hall is helping individuals maintain their independence and wellbeing. At the same time, they are easing pressure on health and social care services by helping to prevent issues that can arise from malnutrition, loneliness and neglect.

This is exactly why unrestricted funding matters. It allows trusted, community-rooted organisations like Jubilee Hall to continue delivering essential services where they are needed most.

We are proud to support their work and grateful for the dedication of the team who are making such a tangible difference across our district, one meal, one doorstep and one conversation at a time.
