Prosper Wins Collaboration of the Year – But the Real Celebration Belongs to Wakefield’s Children

We’re proud to share that Prosper has been named Collaboration of the Year at the Wakefield Business Awards 2025. An honour that means a great deal to our team, our partners, and everyone involved in the Wakefield Children’s Bed Appeal.

But while the recognition is wonderful, we want to be clear: this award isn’t really about us. It’s about what can happen when a community decides that no child in Wakefield should have to sleep on the floor.

A Partnership Built on Purpose

The Bed Appeal began as a collaboration between Prosper and Wakefield Community Foundation, rooted in a simple but urgent mission: to ensure every child in the district has a safe, comfortable bed of their own.

What followed was something truly special. Organisations and individuals who might never normally cross paths came together with a shared sense of responsibility. Three rival rugby league clubs, local philanthropists, small businesses, large employers, community groups and hundreds of residents all played their part.

Fundraising events, donations, sponsorships, and acts of generosity poured in from every corner of the district. Together, we created a movement.

530 Children Lifted Out of Bed Poverty

Because of this collective effort, over 530 children in Wakefield now have their own bed – and with it, the safety, comfort and dignity every child deserves.

For us, that achievement is far more important than any award. A bed is a small piece of furniture, but for a child, it can mean better sleep, better health, better focus in school, and a stronger sense of security at home. It’s life-changing.

We worked with specialist charity Zarach to source and deliver the beds across the district. Zarach work across the country in areas of deprivation, giving children the opportunity to engage at school and break the cycle of poverty.

The Award: A Reflection of Community Power

Winning Collaboration of the Year is a reminder of what can be achieved when people put aside differences and come together for a common purpose. It highlights the compassion, creativity and determination that exists across our district.

We are deeply grateful to Wakefield Community Foundation and every partner, donor and volunteer who stepped forward. This award belongs to all of you — and to the families whose lives you’ve helped transform.

Looking Ahead

The need hasn’t disappeared. Bed poverty still affects families across Wakefield, and we remain committed to addressing it for as long as that need exists. With our partners and supporters beside us, we know we can reach even more children.

We’ll continue working quietly, collaboratively, and with community at the heart of everything we do, because every child deserves a safe place to sleep.
