As part of this year’s partnership, Prosper will be match funding the money raised through the WACCL charity auction, doubling the impact of donations made on the day up to a maximum of £25,000.

Through its annual Christmas lunch and charity auction, the event raises vital funding for organisations delivering life-changing support across our communities.

Over the past two years, the generosity shown by WACCL attendees, sponsors and supporters has demonstrated the remarkable difference that can be achieved when the Wakefield district comes together behind a common cause. We have seen first-hand the impact these funds can have, helping local organisations deliver projects, services and opportunities that make a genuine difference to young lives.
A Story of Friendship & Confidence from Family Burns Club
“As a result of this (WACCL) funding, children living with burn injuries have the opportunity to attend our annual charity weekend away, where they can spend time with other children who have had similar experiences.
This story is about a child who attended our annual charity weekend away last year. Following a significant burn injury, they struggled with confidence because of their visible scars. They often avoided social situations, felt self-conscious around other children, and found it difficult to believe that anyone else understood what they had been through.
With support from our charity, they attended the weekend away where they met other children who had experienced burn injuries. Being surrounded by peers who shared similar experiences helped them feel accepted and understood for the first time. Throughout the weekend, they grew in confidence, took part in activities they had initially been reluctant to try, and formed meaningful friendships with other young burn survivors.
By the end of the weekend, the child was smiling, joining in with enthusiasm, and talking openly about their experiences. Their parents told us they returned home happier, more confident, and feeling proud of who they are rather than defined by their injuries. They have stayed in touch with friends they made during the weekend and are excited to attend this year’s event, showing the lasting impact the experience has had on their confidence, wellbeing, and sense of belonging.
This child’s journey demonstrates the difference our weekend away can make and how funding like this creates lasting positive change for children and families affected by burn injuries.”

This year’s commitment means that every pound raised through the auction will go twice as far, up to £25,000, creating an even greater opportunity to invest in the future of children and young people across our district.
