Celebrating 75 Years of Prosper, an Afternoon to Remember

Last week, we were delighted to welcome beneficiaries, partners, supporters and friends to a very special event: the celebration of 75 years of Prosper. Held at the stunning Create Café in Wakefield One, the afternoon brought together the people, stories and community spirit that have shaped our organisation from our earliest beginnings in 1851 to our official registration in 1950 and through 150 years of change.

From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere felt vibrant and full of pride. Sparkling apple and elderflower mocktails flowed, accompanied by delicious canapés and cakes, as attendees explored a display of historical items from our past. Our newly-designed timeline stood alongside them, illustrating just how much has changed and how much has stayed true to our core purpose of supporting the Wakefield district.

Powerful Voices

The event opened with a wonderful performance from the Sounds of Broadway choir, whose energy set the tone for the celebration ahead.

We then heard from three inspiring speakers:

  • Cath Longley, Chair of Trustees, who reflected on Prosper’s long history of independence and our commitment to meeting local need.
  • Kath Lindley, Prosper’s CEO, who spoke about her personal experiences of the organisation and our vision for the future.
  • Hayley Grocock, CEO of Wakefield District Sight Aid, who delivered an especially heartfelt speech. Hayley shared her personal experience of working with Prosper over the years and the impact that our support has had on her organisation and its beneficiaries. Her words moved many in the room and served as a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.

A Milestone Moment

The highlight of the afternoon was the unveiling of two major firsts for Prosper:

  • Our inaugural Impact Report – a celebration of the difference our funding has made in communities across the district.

  • The premiere of our first ever Prosper video, showcasing the people, partnerships and stories behind our work.

Both were extremely well received and marked an exciting step forward in how we share Prosper’s story and the work our partners do every day.

Thank You

So much was packed into two hours, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the event possible.
To our beneficiaries, guests, supporters, staff and trustees… thank you. Your energy, generosity and belief in what Prosper stands for continue to drive us forward.

Here’s to the next chapter of Prosper’s journey, and to many more years of strengthening communities across the Wakefield district.
